HAPPY 2010!

Hello Everyone.

I remember watching the movie "Future Shock" in my Adventist Elementary School and afterward we spoke of the turning of the millennium--the year 2000. At that time it seemed impossible that the world would last that long. There was NO way I would ever get that old, nor could the world.

Now, here I am very much alive with the world still spinning and it is a decade past the millennium. I know a lot of Adventists were raised to always stay awake and look for the last-day signs. Adventists are always craning their necks to see over the horizon. They have been taught to see a conspiracy in every move the government makes.

While the world celebrated the New Year at 12 midnight, the orthodox Adventists had already celebrated it when the sun went down. Except, celebrate is too happy a word. They acknowledged with some surprise and sorrow that the world was a year older. The good news being that it was that much closer to the Second Coming.

Now that we have left that mindset behind us, how do we look towards life and living it on earth? It is not that we do not love the Lord's coming as the Millerites of the 19th century claimed of those who did not believe his prophecy. It is that we have learned to appreciate the wonderful, awesome gift of life NOW! Though we look forward to the sorrows of sin being put in the past, we know that living each day is a GREAT gift from God and it should not be wasted in dwelling on "someday."

We can and should be ready to see Jesus each day, but we should also see the glory of living in the present. We should see our mission as earthlings, made in the image of God, as living WITH CHRIST NOW! We are now living a tiny bit of heaven now as we serve Him and glorify Him today. The future is bright. The future is secure. And we can now embrace today with such satisfaction and love. We are to spend today knowing that each moment is a gift from Him to learn and live and love each other.

Carpe Diem and Give it to GOD!!
